WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin

This is a must-have for WordPress installations:

WordPress Automatic Upgrade is a plugin that automatically upgrades your wordpress version to the latest files provided by wordpress.org using the 5 steps provided in the wordpress upgrade instructions.

WPAU as I call it helps you easily upgrading you to easily upgrade your wordpress installation to the latest version provided by wordpress, without having to download or upload any files.

I just discovered it when I was having problems with my 2.5.1 installation – it’s linked from the WordPress.org instructions for upgrading. It’s also a good idea to check if you’ve been hacked . The older versions have a vulnerability that allows exposure of admin passwords and such.

Control Netflix (and other things) with your remote

I watch a lot of downloaded and streaming content. Often I copy files to the PS3 in the living room, and playback control is no problem. But if I’m watching on my computer, if I want to pause or rewind, it means I have to physically get up and go to the computer to do so. No more! I’m setting this up today:

You can control Netflix Watch Now playback with your remote. All you need is a remote control, a infrared receiver like the USBUIRT and a program like girder. I’ll show you how I’m doing this and share with you my girder gml file which you can download as well.

Add Page Numbers to Google Docs

This is a pretty cool trick:

goslogogif.png Google finally realized that the headers and footers from Google Docs have almost no real use, as you can’t add dynamic information like page numbers or the current date. Until Google adds these options in the interface, you can edit the document’s HTML code to use them.

Note: these headers and footers will only be visible on an exported PDF.
